I’ve landed in my new home continent for my next 11 months. My family, Aunt, Uncle, Cousins Grandad and I (10 in total) are all travelling before I move to my place of residence. We started by flying from Calgary to Amsterdam, where we had a 2-hour layover before flying to Inverness. To be honest, I knew next to nothing about this place, but now I do! It’s a small town in the Highlands of Scotland where roughly 60,000 people reside, a popular place for backpackers and famous due to its proximity to Loch Ness. It is so lush with a full-scale of green, as a result of its rainy nature. When you walk down the sidewalks in Inverness, you can easily find many biblical scriptures either embedded into the ground or on the walls, something we found to be really neat. Our first full day in Scotland, we spent doing a small group tour to Loch Ness and the surrounding areas. It consisted of a boat tour where the supposed monster lives, exploring the ruins of Urquhart Castle, lunch in the small town of Drumnadrochit and a few visits to waterfalls. Sadly, I’ve been majorly sick with a sore throat since arriving, not being able to sleep more than 2 consistent hours in the night and only managing a few bites at meals. This sickly experience has put a damper on my mood, to be honest, but hopefully, it will pass soon enough so I can enjoy all this trip has to offer. So far, the people here are quite nice and from what I can tell, everyone seems to be enjoying the food. Yesterday, we are travelled 4 hours to Edinburgh and will be enjoying the city for a few days, whilst the Fringe Fest is here. So excited to see what this city is all about.
Edit: Found out that the lemon tea was one of the worst things to be drinking in my case...big yikes.
